Internet search leader Google.com announced that they are scanning millions of pages of old newspapers and make them searchable online through Google News Archives.
Google scanners will scan everything that appeared on the newspaper page including photographs, headlines, articles, and advertisements. (Thanks Labnol.org)
This service allows Google News users to search the archives of some major newspapers and magazines. Readers will be able to search the archives using keywords and view articles as they appeared originally in the print pages of newspapers.
News archive search can also automatically create timelines which show selected results from relevant time periods.
Google is partnership with some major news paper publisher companies – The New York Times, Washington Post, and the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph.
