Every year, the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), (funded by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India), organizes Mathematical Olympiads at state as well as at national level.

The Karnataka Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) sponsored by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) will be held on November 9, 2008 at different centers all over Karnataka.

Best students would progress to the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (January 2009) and then to the International Mathematical Olympiad to be held in Germany in July 2009. The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country.

The principal objectives are to identify and nurture students with special talent in Mathematics. Top students would get admission to courses of several premier national institutes. Students of Class IX, X, XI and XII can appear at Mathematical Olympiads.
