India’s largest vehicles maker Tata Motors has launched Jaguar and Land Rover luxury cars in India, a brand which it acquired from the US car maker Ford for $2.3 billion in March last year. Indian luxury car market already includes rivals like Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata spoke at the launch event: “It’s quite a memorable day in the history and heritage of Tata Motors… JLR has been well received and well established in India, but over the years this brand has been disconnected from India. Now, we have decided to extend the penetration of the two brands in India. I think the cars will exhibit the levels of technology and levels of performance here.”
Jaguar is launching the XF and XK range of luxury car models in India, starting at a price tag of 63 lakh rupees and going up to 90 lakh rupees. The Land Rover brands coming to India will be Rover Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport and the basic Range Rover, with prices also starting at 63 lakh rupees but going beyond 90 lakh.
